This summer I embarked on a digital detox through a newly founded company called Unplugged. Isolated in a log cabin in the middle of fields & woodland (somewhere in West Sussex!), we were presented with a lock box for our phones and encouraged to use only the map, compass, and polaroid camera provided during our 3-day retreat.
Would I be lying if I said I wasn’t apprehensive at first? 100%! The thought of not having the safety net of my mobile phone left me feeling slightly anxious, but this soon disappeared from the back of my mind.
As time went by, I began to re-focus my attention on with what was going on around me – little things like the different sounds of the birds in the morning, the number of satellites that cross the sky at night, and how peaceful it is living in pure countryside! Time seemed to slow down. I had the hours free to read books, explore local walks, and enjoy old-school board games. My mind was completely relaxed.
